tool loaning library

Having just had to buy a sprocket retaining tool for a TD4 was thinking will probably never need to use it again. How many of us out there have done the same and they are now gathering dust in the garage.
How about starting a list of us that would be happy to loan out the tools to others to save on the repair costs. There could be a section where people could post what need and see how it goes.
Whilst there could be a few problems in general I think it could turn into a useful tool.
What are your thoughts.

very good idea for people in your area but i find if i lend out tools, welder, etc i end up going to fetch them back.

Aye! with bits missing and/or broken, and on that note I ain't lent owt out in over 30 years.

There used to be a very good tool hire place here.

Cautionary scenario: You've had a good tool for years, you lend it out and get it back. The next time you use it, it breaks!!!

I know what you all are saying, my thought were more on the one off items like the one I needed for removing the high pressure pump, the chance that I will need it again is probably slim. General tool are personal to us.

True. Clubs have specialist tools for the borrowing of.

Why not just sell them at a reduced price if you only use once and lose say £15 on initial buying price a year on it my cost you £20 Moore to replace it if you unlucky and have to use one again and if your repair in the first place was cost effective it may sit on a self for years and never be used again

funny that i have just made one to hold the sprocket on a mk4 diesel injection pump,and had to borrow a tool to lock the crankshaft, will i ever use it again i dont know, who now drives a mk 4 escort cab fitted with a diesel 1600 engine, no one. but i wont sell it, would lend it out, same if i buy a trackace ,will do my cars then lend it out only to people i trust, but end up adjusting it for them i suppose.I never sell a tool, one day you can use it for something else,My welder i bought when 27 years old, still going 37 years later, every one used it. did not use it at one time for 10 years then it was used again as kids got cars, always keep tools unless u get skint LOl
