Hi all, looking for some inspiration, anyone seen any?
I seem to be a bit too tall for my lovely new 300tdi :doh: I'm 6'6" and when '1 up' I have very limited distance vision without ducking down a bit
When I load her up the back drops and all is well, well much better anyway, so here are my thoughts, I either need a way to hold the back down a bit, not really practical I guess (not wishing to carry round a hundred weight of 'stuff') or I need to lower the drivers seat a couple of inches. Perhaps a trimmer could find a way, but looking under the seat it doesnt look like an easy job to lower the runners
Any ideas oh wise ones??

Well thanks soooo much for the replies, I knew I could count on you all!! for laughs (my toenails are fine and it's just too cold to keep on poking my head out of the sunroof) and the sensible, Smarty1972, love your idea!! Could someone please tell me what 'fitting a 2" lift to the front' involves, and I will get right on with it!!?? (Imagine you are telling someone who knows nothing about 'lifts', actually don't imagine, just assume, however I am handy with a set of spanners!!)

I'm 6ft 4 and drive a D2. Before that I had a 200 TDI Disco. I don't remember having problems as such with either of them but I have noticed that I do put my seat back further back from the vertical than my wife does when she drives. She's never driven the Landies but she and I both drive the almera, and I've noticed that I have to always, not only push the seat back but also adjust the back as well.

If you're 6ft 6 you'll have longer arms as well, so sitting with the lumber support tilted back a bit shouldn't be a problem.
 
Oops forgot to do a search, sorry all..... Now I have, I see all sorts of posts on the subject of lifts, blimey, it's like oil all over again!! :D

So it appears that with age my springs may have sagged a little:eek:, and it may cause issues to put in a 2" lift, though it may not, but as I do not go serious off roading, it is not necessary anyway... blah blah etc.... :rolleyes:

But I would like to ensure the front is as high as it should be, maybe a smidgen higher, I do not want to spend a fortune, do not want to break anything, and do not want to adjust anything else....

Sounds from my searches like I need new front springs, possibly slightly stronger than standard?

Please could you point me in the right direction for what I need and where to get them?

Just cut the seat frame and weld it back on.... easy job.

here's a pic when I repaired the floor on my old disco....
You can just see how the seat frame is, its just a tubular structure, cut it and drop the seat... I think its the easier option!

remove the seat base support that normally snaps. i couldnt see over the steering wheel when ours went. dont cut out tho' there like rocking horse **** to get hold of!
 
Hi all, excellent replies again thanks, unfortunately as mine is a disco, the seat runners on the inner side attach to the floor, so nothing to cut down :doh: Maybe I will try Exmoor trim, but kind of hoped this had been seen before and someone had had a lightbulb moment....:D
 
Your eyes must sit quite high in your face !.

I, like you, am 6,6" and dont seem to have too much of an issue with my D1 or D2.
I must admit though, any taller, and I would struggle to see under the where the roof joins the top of the windscreen.

I,ll have a look under the seat in me D1 and see if I can see where there might be any space to lower it a bit.

( you fookin tall freak !!! ).

Ahh you must be tall in the legs fella, I on the other hand only have 36" inside leg :eek:
It all got worse when I replaced the knackered drivers seat foam, now I have a comfy bum, but cant see!! always bloody something.....
Nice to know I'm not alone as the tall freak!!

that is a disco seat, just no carpets :D
 
Cool, O well I have had another look, and though mine looks very different to yours 300tdistu, I was wrong and they are not connected to the floor :) SO I will strip it all out next week and see what can be done, hopeful though that it is after all just a cut down job of some sort, don't think it needs much... Anybody in somerset handy with a welder and angle grinder?
