Hi,

I have just joined Landyzone and wondered if anyone could help. I have a 110 Defender Tomb Raider which has a Isuzu 2.8 4 cylinder engine the engine reference is 4JB1T the year of the engine is 1988 to 1992. Isuzu cannot give me parts information without a chasis number of the what the engine came out of and I don't have this information. I understand it is out of a Trooper and wondered if anyone had a similar conversion and could give me a chasis number.

Thanks

Unfortunately I don't know the answer to that one as it was already in when I purchased it. However, I understand from others that the isuzu works well in a defender. Fingers crossed.

nope there were at least 2 V8s i have been in the film car and that was sporting a tvr derived V8 with an auto box

your quite right fella, but your talking about the actual film cars i think the op has one of the land rover released special edition that were released after the movie, think they were all county spec 90's and 110

the film cars were v8 hi cap pick up' with no roof but a full lenght roof rack.
They then cashed in and built some special editions with a round Tomb Raider badge's on the front wing's.
I think they were 90 SW and 110 crew cab's

I expect his car is a much older, standard 110 that has been converted fairly recently. AFAIK the Tomb Raiders that were sold to the British public were TD5s, but the ones used in the film were automatic V8s.

The one in the film was a 110 square backed pickup with only two seats. The snorkel is on the wrong side of the movie cars so they can't have been td5's so that makes everyone who said they were v8's right. All of the tomb raider ones I've seen, including the film cars, had mushroom top snorkels and that doesn't.

Hi Guys,

My LR is most certainly a Tomb Raider Replica and whoever did the conversion made a good job of it. I am certainly pleased with it. Anyway I am more than happy with a replica and it goes with my missus who is an Angelina Jolie lookalike lol.

But if anyone has a chasis number for the isuzu it would be appreciated.

Things about that car are wrong like the headlight surrounds, the bumper, the grille, the indicators, the wing indicators, the vent cover, the side steps not to mention the engine. I also thought all of them had black alloys. Another thing is they all had a strip of chequer plate down the sills and that doesn't.

But then again if it's a copy they got plenty right such as the roof rack. They even got the wheel arches right.

Anyone who knows more than me have an idea if I'm right or if that's a copy?

The engine you have may also have came out of the frontera 2.8 i have a fronty with this engine exactly the same block as the trooper just the intercooler was in a differant place on the trooper it was on top of the engine hence a bonnet scoop, on the the fronty it was in front of the rad

any tech help needed with this engine i.e removing egr valves try Main Page - FogWiki they know all they need to know about these engines and may even know about how to track a chassis number

Did the Monterey have the same engine? That's the direct 'Twooper' clone IIRC.
