Hey to all again just thought id post some pics of my now tosted disco! A bit of routine welding under the front drivers arch turned into a nightmare when a short in some dodgy wiring under the window switches from a previous owner decided it was going to try and kill her off! The only explanation i can come up with as to how it shorted is that one of the battery leads was touching the body whilst the mig was on and created a 240v circuit causing the dodgy wiring to give up! anyway some pics,

ill post some more once ive got the new interior fitted and sorted:)

i had my head under the wheel arch, and only realised when my dad came round, as he was taking the **** saying that other parts needed doin too and that he didn`t know id had the windows tinted! just glad the whole car didnt go up!

That happened to me old dears astra, reckon it was probably a smouldering ember from a fag she had a couple of hours previous. The residue was really gungy/sticky and it was stinking. Is yours similar? It was mainly the foam that was burnt in hers though.

There is some bad news chaps that car is now full of toxic fumes and small toxic particles all over the place in there.

I recommend thick rubber gloves, goggles and face mask for a start if your going to pull bits out, be warned its not healthy stuff

Disco dude has a point, the plastic and foams inside become very toxic when burned! Should be fine as long as you don't lick it!

Fookin hell!

We always weld vehicles with 2 people so one does the welding and the other passes tools, makes tea and fire watches.

Oh i remember it well from childhood. Water in a fairy liquid bottle, a damp rag and 'if you see flames son, put 'em out'
The smell of smoldering sound proofing rubber stays with me forever.

haha!:5bsmilielol5: like that! yeh the place that i was welding was no where near any combustable stuff id striped eveything out that could catch fire and had the water etc on standby, just dont know how i didnt notice:doh: think it must have been heat more than flame as everything seems to have melted rarther than burned but some good advice re; the rubber gloves, never know whats in the materials, ive already got 90% of the interior just a few bits to finish off

Congratulations indeed!

I was planning my 2000th post for a little while, and then in the heat of the moment I forgot and ended up at 2003 before I noticed/remembered.

Pretty bummed about that!
