To winch or not to winch...that is the question

Hey all

Just wanted your thoughts on the non electric types of winches..i.e the manual handle turn type. i have been offered a 2.5 tonne one cheap cheap and just wanted to know what everyones thoughts were on them.. will try and add pics. the puller is a 4 tonne one and the hand winch is 2.5. both are less than 20 quid.

expensive at a tenner each, handy for pulling carts around the yard, or boats outta water with - won't do much if you're axle deep in mud

the first one is a drum winch, don't bother. theres not much rope on it and you would need around a 3 tonne winch. it would be massive and the handle would be too long. The second one.... well, dont even bother. theres very little rope on em and they are built out of chocolate. we used to supply em but we stopped because every one came back after a single use. complete piece o crap.
go for a tirfor, it's tried and tested technology thats old as the hills and work well.

forget them. They're both crap. The second one is only ok if you are pulling a rolling vehicle along a hard surface. Save up some more wonga and get a tirfor.

Hummm finding one out here should be fun, roof rack and bull bar will also be a challenge unless someone has some plans i can use to get the local indian machining whizz kids to make.
