Series 3 Tips for lubricating new fuel filler and breather hoses to ease installation?

Hi All, the filler and breather hoses to my fuel tank have perished and need replacing. With access a little restricted, has anyone got any tips for getting these tight new hoses over the filler assembly or the barbed male pipes on the tank itself. I’ve heard various things about Vaseline, WD40, etc. Am going to give it a go tomorrow but just thought I’d check in case anyone had mastered it. Tom
