Hi all,
my td4 sounds like a tin of nails for about 5 mins when i start it up from cold, after this time the sound goes.It seems to be coming from the drivers side of the engine down near the belts which i had changed about 20000 miles ago.Has any one got any constructive ideas as to what it could be. Thanks.

Hi, mine is a bit the same somtimes, I get a loose rattle sound in the engine bay that I can hear from the drivers side wheel arch.

This only happens when the engine is cold and if I drive it a mile up the road it is gone.

Does not happen all the time and I have not heard it at all even from cold since I came back from a driving holiday in Scotland last week. The freelander done well over 2000 miles loaded up with 4 adults lots of luggage including a large overweight roofbox.

I have just put the noise down to diesel rattle when cold, by the time the engine has been lubricated over a mile or so it is gone.
