P38A Inexpensive sub woofer fix

Just thought I'd post about the inexpensive subwoofer fix I've just done on my P38. As is typical, one of the speakers in the subwoofer was shredded. I found this replacement on Amazon for twenty quid each. They have the same impedance and drop into the spaces in the subwoofer enclosure like they were made for it. Even the screw holes line up. The only issue is that they don't have a thread in the back of the driver so you can't just screw the subwoofer amp back onto the speakers like before. I used No Nails. They sound fine. I decided to replace both just to be on the safe side acoustically speaking, so I now have an OE spare if anyone wants it for the price of postage from Birmingham UK.

Sub woofer amp??
Weirdly I'm messing with mine today, both speakers paper is rotted but I have nowt that screws to the back of them but I do have a 'thing' screwed to the outside of the sub box that connects to the speakers.
Will those linked ones work for me too?

Yeah the amp and a massive heatsink was screwed to the back of the two speakers on mine. But, looking at the remaining surplus OE speaker in my hand right now, it looks the same as yours. And from the bits of the enclosure I can see in your pics that looks the same too. So I'm guessing the new speakers would work for you too?
 
Is that little box thing a sub woofer amp then? Mines a 2001 HK system. I don't have a separate system amp in the boot but individual amps in each door.
I know nowt about ice really but I'm intelligence gathering at the mo! :vb-weyes:

Mine's a 2000 HK system but looks like they used a different approach to amplification. Think mine also has amps in the doors. Looks like this will be an even easier job for you, not having to bond the amp to the backs of the speakers.

Yay!
Done some searching and found this post. Looks like yours has a posher sound system with a separate dsp amp mounted behind the sub woofer and hidden behind the wool type insulation.
It's all proper confusing but I think all the info is starting to come together in my little brain. Forgot to get the pic of your amp but it was indeed a big lump fixed to the back of the speakers. The little box mounted externally is the other type off an earlier model(according to marty below) someone has definitely been in there before me as various bolts holding the cd player and the sub woofer in place were missing
Maybe im supposed to have your type and someone has swopped it out.
