Timing chain tensioner on a TD5 Disco

Hi All
i noticed the other day a big oil leak on the floor, after doing some digging around its turned out to be the Timing chain tensioner MISSING?? yep missing, if you need to know where to find this on the engine as you look at a td5 from the front, ith a alan bolt about 8 inched down on the front face of the engine to the rightjust above the fan pully...
it looks like someone who changed the timing chain never used thread lock and its worked its way out and gone :crazy:?
the oil was only coming out under pressure so no sign when it was on tick over other than the normal sprayed engine bay.
can anyone tell me are these easy to refit? is it a case of just screwing it back in?

Yes just screw the new one in and it self adjusts on hydraulic oil pressure just like a valve lifter would. Let it idle until warm them gently raise the revs to about 2k and that should be that. Make sure everything is spotlessly clean as the tiniest bit of grit can jam the adjuster. I'm surprised you have not noticed the noise the rattling chain would be making. You are also lucky it has not jumped a tooth.

Just reread your post and the timing chain tensioner screws into the engine on the inlet manifold side so the nose runs against the chain. NOT the front of the engine.

Hi mate, I hope they have got the right thing? Mines defo on the right front just above the fan pulley wheel, i was told its a Alan grub screw? Is the right? Please help

right i now have found out what it is
its the timing chain fixed guide alan screw

OK thats not such a big deal as the chain guide is held in place by more than one screw. Just refit a new screw with a dab of loctite and you should be good to go.
