Hi,
Been driving the past few days and there was a ticking noise that got faster with the revs (and quite oddly less in 3rd).

I opened the bonnet (baring in mind I'm very much a novice with engines) and saw that in time with the ticking noise was this small arm on what I now know to be the fuel lift pump. It was reving up and down great guns!

I ID'd the part and saw how it should be housed, the leaver should be up. Pushed it up quite firmly and past a stop piece. and it is not moving anymore.

Just wondering should there be a clip of some sort? There is none I can see, other than a recess. Also if it's normal for this to happen when the fuel lift pumps are on their way out or any other advice on this please?

Cool thanks for the reply. Will look into replacing it. I'm going to change the drop arm tomorrow. That's my first job on it!

They're not expensive but buy a Delphi or genuine LR lift pump if you can. I fitted genuine to mine because it was free and it was very good quality but everyone recommends Delphi. Don't buy britpart for gods sake

That was my next question, thanks for the advice on make!

It's a 1/5 spanner job in the Haynes. That's my level! Looking forward to it!

Just wondering where's the best place to get a Delphi or LR part online? Will check my local 4x4 garages and euro parts.

Many thanks on the advice!

forget euro, bit crap for landy stuff.

lots of choice, i use lrdirect.com but there are many more.

you really need the part number to search for, in this case ETC7869 - Superceded by STC1190 for a 200tdi. Always double check :)

that can be a hard job to do on a landy! you might need to cut it off or find a bigass 20T puller. good luck!

(fyi, because the balljoint can be a right pain, some people stick a disco setup on which uses a standard tre)

It really is a piece of ****. I did mine in less than a half hour, spent longer fiddling with the bloody nuts! Anyway remove in and out fuel lines from top of lift pump, remove two bolts securing lift pump to block, remove lift pump from block, offer up new lift pump and assembly is opposite of removal. That's it. Bleed air out of system manually using your shiny new lift pump, start motor and check for leaks and jobs a fish :)

Sorry to hijack. But the lift pump on my 300tdi has a lever on the bottom of it. And when the engine is running the lever moves up and down quickly. Is mine faulty too then? Having no engine problems what so ever. Running great

Mostly agree but I have bought beru heater plugs off them at a very good price (30% off) and they had a decent quality waterpump in stock when I needed one urgently. There is one close to where I work.

Mostly though, I can't find what I want. I've noticed they often list parts on eBay but don't have them in stock on their own website.

oh yeah, don't get me wrong, i use them for vag and other stuff. also beru plugs :)

but they never seem to have anything for landies and it's an arse not to be able to search via the part number

Hi,
I knew on mine it was not right. Check out a quick YouTube Google and see what it should look like. Also see if it can hold in the up position maybe?

It took 3 hours and it's still not off.

The nut took 10 mins! I angle grinded the side of the arm, still got more to cut, I broke a flat hammer in it too.

Ive just fitted the bearmach one of ebay looks decent and works a treat they also get it shipped out nice and quick
