Ticking/Knocking Noise

Hello,

Brought my Freelander 1998 2.0 3 door diesel, a couple of months back.

Whenever I'm going round a corner, using full lock there is a knocking noise, to the rear of the car. Once I release the full lock this is fine.

I've been told this is the diff locking in, from another freelander user?

The noise is able to be heard outside of the vehicle, just sounds bad inside..

Have I been told right or should I get a garage to take a look at it.

Theres no "locking in" on Freelander diffs.
The noise will probably be generated by the increased torque to the rear caused by the VCU working as intended (providing drive to the rear when there is a noticeable difference between front and rear axle mean speeds). On loose or slippy ground this can manifest itself as a stick=slip motion on the inner rear wheel.
This will then resonate through the rear drive/suspension. Areas where it can show up are in the diff mounts or the drive shaft CV joints. Given the frequency of questions about the diff mounts I would suspect these as the first point for attention. There have been plenty of posts about fixxing them.

I couldn't find anything about the diff locking in, so that'd be why. Going to check the diff mounts and the CV joints!
