Hello

I've got a 93 LSE 4.2l. While doing the 10k miles service I saw the error:

(17) Throttle potentiometer giving invaild readings

The error doesn't clear. I've performed the tests from the electrical troubleshooting manual and it seems to check out.

The previous owner did say the car would cut out every now and again while driving along. I have experienced this once or twice too (over 6k miles) momentary loss of power, but it picks right back up again. I guess it might be this potentiometer?

Anyone got any experiences of what might happen when this potentiometer goes?

Easy enough to replace, just a little pricey.

Thanks
Neil

Just to wrap this post off. After coming to the conclusion that that POT was probably OK, I went through all the wiring I could see, wiggling it and cleaning it. That was about 4 weeks ago, the error has not come back in that time.

Thanks
Neil

Not had a throttle pot go, but it sounds like there could be a loose connection or broken wire (haystack, needle?). Alternatively, the problem could be in the ecu.

BTW you may be able to get a cheaper throttle pot from a local motor factors, I believe Intamotor make replacements - I know they certainly do ignition amplifiers and temp.sensors and they are cheaper than I have found at any of the usual places - might be worth looking into.
