throttle/ auto box problem

hoping someone can shed some light on my problem, my 1998 p38 dse auto starts and revs easily but as soon as i select drive or reverse it will not rev up. the throttle potentiometer ( i assume its fly by wire) seems to switch off as it has no effect. select neutral or park and power is restored to the throttle pedal. if i select low range same problem but i can move the car as it requires less revs and idle speed can move it. is there some sort of interlock stopping the throttle from working? thanks for any help john

This sounds like an issue which someone had earlier which turned out to be the fuel temperature sensor. I'll try and find the thread.

Need diagnostics live data should tell you what is going on.
