Ali its just leaking from around the outside of the cam cover

Nodge i have a clutch alignment tool i bought when i done a full engine rebuild on my Nissan Xtrail 4 years ago, where can i buy the oil seal from? the L series engine is hard to find parts for
Oops ,sorry mate, I forgot it was an L series, not K series.
Plus one on Bearmach, I'd avoid them and stick with kit from DMGRS.
 
Found a online shop in Australia who has the L series seal in the housing they offer aftermarket for $44 or genuine for $60 plus postage, it was going to cost $60 from the UK so quiet happy we have ok prices here for land rover parts, i tried calling 2 of my local car spares shops both said the part can only be bought genuine i just hope it comes with the seal protector to slide over the crankshaft as in the youtube videos

You don't need the seal protector. Just clean the dirt and oxidation off the crankshaft end with metal polish, so it's nice and shiny. Then generously oil the end of the crankshaft, so the new seal has something to slide on, oil the seal too. The seal is likely to be a labyrinth seal, which has 2 sealing lips, 1 going inwards and 1 out going outwards. When fitting the seal, make sure the sealing lips go the correct way, gently moving the seal side to side, so this happens. Once the inner seal is where it should be, just gently push the seal on to the crank, so it ends up in it's correct position. Install the bolts and nip them up, using a torque wrench, set to the correct tension.

The bolts are patch bolts, which need replacing. You can often get away with simply using Lockite and torquing them up, but that's not the official way to do it.

The seal housing has its own elastomer seal, so no other sealer is needed.
 
Oh man this is really crap it seems this car never wants to be fixed always needing something

The dealer is to far away even than they have to order everything in
 
Went to 4 shops called another 4 shops none had high heat perminant thread locker in stock had to buy some perminant 148c thread locker will this be ok?
 
Called Land Rover Australia i think the guy was taking the ****.... almost $160 for just the 6 flywheel bolts

i think this will be my first and most defiantly last land rover

Those bolts retail at £1.42 each, plus shipping.

Why don't you order some from the UK and get them shipped over. You could pay for next day shipping and still save a fortune over that rip off price. The Rover part number is: LYG10012.

I have a land rover because they're cheap on parts, well in the UK they are anyway.
 
If you can afford the time to wait it would make more sense to order from the UK. A few bolts are not heavy so should be cheap to ship.

I'll try source some parts today by a MG dealer
 
Sounds like LR dealers sticking the arm in just because they can. The engines in MG cars were identical in most ways to the ones in Freelanders.
I think some folk suggested the MG injectors gave better performance but GG could probably advise better. There are a few threads here were folk have upgraded L series engines to around 140hp from the standard 90 odd for almost no money.

That's quite common. It's always cheaper to buy the Rover part, instead of the LR equivalent. The only difference is the price. LR parts are generally more expensive, as LR are seen as a premium brand, whereas Rover are seen as, shall I say, not a premium brand.
