Hi all...

I already have a rover v8 laying around and know I need an adapter to mate to the gearbox, just wondered if any are tucked away in those garages out there :)
For something to tinker on as you do lol

...and just to confuse even more, I have a 2.25 petrol in it at the moment with what appears to be a blocked radiator. Done all the usual including a good flush but still cold in the middle. Could do with new but hope to do the above v8 soon. So any reasonable rads out there or better still, what rad can I use for both the 2.25 and the rover v8?

Sorry but I do like the sound of the v8 :)

Do a search on here and read the 4000 or so posts from Dr Evil about his V8 into series attempt.

Enjoy!!!!!

20 years ago so hard to remember but I used a 6 pot rad, then butchered a sd1 rad into it.
Also had remote oil filter to miss the diff and spigot bush extender

Thanks Lakes Rob, looks like he has made a lot of posts, will have a look through :)

Hi pressbrake, I might be lucky without remote as its raised 4". Ah yes spigot bush. I think I have seen a converter plate then cut the end of crank. The more input the better :)

Don't bother, its more of a how not to do it

Better off checking one of the other V8 threads from when the engine swap got underway

Lol, you do have a lot of posts Dr Evil, I'm a bit new to this forum lol

Trying to find some of Grippa' at the mo :)

What you'll need is a V8

You'll then need a series (minus engine) and one of the following methods of fitting it, a V8 gearbox, a custom spigot bush at 22.25mm internal and 24mm external, a spigot bush adaptor to mate it to crank or to turn down the input shaft on the series box and then re harden it or leave as is and risk it wearing a bit.

You will also need a V8 conversion plate, I sold mine to "the egg" (member on here who may part with it) a custom flywheel (I still have this and am willing to part or can machine one for you) and then some tools, coffee and brute force

Check these #### ups out as well as the thin walled special spigot we made:

Its much easier to mate a clutch up when using an old input shaft thats been chopped as I found out second time round when I decided to mate the R380 to the V8 instead of the V8 to the series box (wanted a 5 speed box which was tough)

So here's how it looked at the start of the day, about 1pm

And then I set about dismantling the stupid thing.....

So seatbox, footwells and seats out

So with all the **** out of the cab I got cracking with the gearbox and yes it is possible to lift the gearbox and transfer as one by yourself with just a towing strap over your shoulders. So handbrake drum off followed by the props and slave then away you go

If fitting an R380 or LT77 you'll need a new crossmember if you aren't moving the whole lot forward to make it look like a fender and ruin the series front end

New crossmember fits

I'll be sorting it out tomorrow if the rain holds off if not I'll be doing some revision and maybe a bit of light bodywork

I'd fit an LT95 tbh

I've just been given one and its a slightly better fit in a series from what I can see dimension wise than the R380/LT230 combo but getting it in is more of a faff as you cant lift it by hand and manoeuvre inside the cab like you can with the R380 when its separate.

I just picked up the box once I had it resting on the plank and could move it from side to side with ease in order to line up right with the clutch and gearbox

You'll also need modified engine mounts in order to take the V8, a sump modification wouldn't go amiss and I'll be doing that in due course as well as a remote oil filter as the front axle is too close for my liking

Thanks for all the info Dr E. I will take the risk and try with the series transmission for starters! Will have a rethink after I've destroyed it lol.

What rad are you using?
I will try Egg later see if he has the plate as a good start I suppose :)

With some modification to the mounting points a V8 rad from a range rover, defender or discovery will fit although you could use a custom one if that way inclined

You'll need the flywheel too in order to take the smaller clutch of using that method, personally I'm not a fan as mounting it to the gearbox is a bodge at best thanks to the spigot bush, they're very easy to make on a lathe though

Thanks Dr, lots of things to think about!
Think for the moment in time (until I get the bits together) I need to source a rad to get it up and running. Fingers crossed that's all it is :)

Was thinking of chucking the fan anyway as thought electric would give me needed space.
Could do with a series 3 rad for now and been trying to post on wanted section but just realised I have to get to 50 posts lol... that will probably take me a week :)

...want to get it on the road to have some fun until I get all the bits! Hoping not to pay too much for one :)

Just found one on fleabay - rangerover p38 v8 1998 4.6 HSE. would this go in the bay ok with a bit of fiddling??

chat some cr*p in word association, and a few welcomes in the welcome section....... bing bang bosh, 50.....

conversion plate is yours if you want it for what i paid ;)

Off out now but will be welcoming a lot of people later lol
What are you looking for on the plate Egg :)
