hi everyone, im thinking about buying a 200/300tdi disco. A lot of people tell me that they are unreliable and fall apart, are they really that bad? Are there any common problems that they get?

Research before you buy, check sills, boot floor, seatbelt mounts, front inner arches... Basically the body tends to rot not the chassis on a disco.. Know what you are looking at and learn to weld you will be fine.

I have a 97 300tdi and love it. Mice to drive and great fun off road.

I'm a newbie, I only got my discovery in August and I'm still at the stage where I'm not sure whether I love it or hate it, lol :). As soon as I start loving it, something goes wrong or needs fixing. That's when I hate it. But then I get such a good feeling when/if I manage to fix it that I start loving it again. But no sooner one problem is sorted, another one appears and I hate it again. And so it goes on. It really is a love/hate thing. All I'd say is, if you don't mind spending lots of time working on your car, either trying to prevent problems or fixing them, then they really are great cars. I still get a buzz out of driving it when it's all going well.

What he said, got mine end Dec,turbo went following week, then diff went (again) on wifes freelander so wife muttered something about F%*kink landrovers and divorce,to be honest, wasnt listening as was outside fixing me Disco.......:p
Do it mate, best thing you'll ever do :crazy_driver:

Ditto what everyone else has said - just keep on top of checking stuff and servicing. Learn to do it yourself (with LZ help) and search before you ask questions!! Great fun to drive!

Mine's a steaming **** bag moneypit and only on a few occasions do I stop wondering why I put up with it!

I'd rather die than have anything newer however.
