They are rated for 2000kg towing load but can it actually pull it?

Hey guys i have a Freelander 1998 Turbo Diesel its rated to tow 2000kg but can it actually pull this load? i also have a Nissan Xtrail that is also rated to tow 2000kg limit and its struggling with a 1500kg load back to 1st gear climbing hills and even than it almost runs out of puff just wondering if the TD freelander will be the same i have not towed with it yet as i am about to change the clutch

I used to tow a 24’ caravan. It’s MTPLM (maximum load basically) was almost 1800KG. I’m almost certain we had the caravan full and bits in the boot, and it pulled it all the north east. I never once had trouble with its towing ability, had plenty other issues, but never pulling power.

Should have said, mine was TD4, not the older diesel.

I'm planning on towing a 5.7 meter or those in imperial 18.5 foot fibreglass boat all up weight will be around 1400kg (boat, motor and trailer)

I once used a Freelander Td4 to tow a Ivor Williams car transporter with a LWB series 3 on the back. It towed it, but I didn't feel happy about it, recently I added up the gross weight and it came to over 2300 kg!

That’ll be no problem behind a Freelander weight wise, a longer tow vehicle is obviously preferable, but with only 1.4t behind you it won’t matter so much.

The 1.8 K-series engines are well known for their problems. There may be some enthusiasts who say differently.

From what I have googled, the old L series 2.0 diesel engine is a reliable old slogger, less refined than the Td4 but capable of high mileages. Google 2.0 Di and read what people are saying.

Its a very good engine just a little underpowered, had a Rover 600 with one in that went well over 200k still didnt use any oil between changes

Does anyone know where to source a fuel sender for this car? I have looked everywhere and can only find 2001-2002 i cannot find any earlier mine is 1998 as mentioned turbo diesel

I just ordered a new clutch from the UK AUD $185 shops over here wanted up to AUD $580

Ask int Freelander section over ere. Can be cheaper to buy the same part under a rover part code as opposed to lr part code.
