Hi All, how the hell are you all. Well Its been a year to forget so lets forget it eh.
I still got my Freelander 1 TD4, autobox, HSE version, yes i`m still happy with it and had it since 2019 I belive. I dont really, or have not been far for a year, but did get my hippo MOT a month or so ago, genuine local garage to me, Its MOT after being extended by Gov.uk got extended even more as i forgot, and so it was at 21 months from the previous one.. TBH I had already purchased stuff I thought may need doing for MOT, but, now I`m 73 and "not so well" I had to give in and let the Garage do what was required to get a fresh MOT.. Pair of new lower arms, anti roll bar links and bushes, even put in still in the box a complete new bearing set, but, was not required, even got the lower arm rubber bushes back as the existing ones were MOT passable.. Over the year previous I had been buying REDEX for diesels and each time i filled up gave it a good drop of redex. REASON ? as when i first got the hippo, i had to do monthly runs to Norwich from Clacton on sea and noticed black smoke when pressing the go peddle.. Its auto so changes gear if under load... A year later there Is very little to none black smoke now and at test it was very good on there machine. I got to try/ but hopefully can/ yes i WILL/ give it an engine service as Its still not done 5000 miles since last engine service, as most is done standing anyway (got a comfy chair = ex office chair) under my car port for "tea breaks".. So what brought me here today ? well, I sold one of my classic vespa Scooters sunday and towed it In my lengthened box trailor about hour and half away to my sons mate place, and during the drive 2 of my amigos showed up / first time i had towed anything more than 10 miles locally.. Have read so good tips on curing it, will Investigate further tomorrow`ish/ if the suns out.. LOl I been out there today with my phone turned to face filming trying to look under the dash to see what type of brake switch i have as Its a 2004 model, automatic and has cruise control, so, EBAY tells you its one type when it looks very much like the other type/ lol anyway I`ll look at the fuses as well as plugging in my cheap OBD2 reader..Sorry this Is so long, but, I always talk far too much.. Have a happy week all.. / Ian.B.

Sounds like the brake light switch needs cleaning. Check the brake lights are coming on. It's possible the extra current drain of the trailer lights have caused a bad connection on the switch contacts.
The switch can be carefully pulled to pieces for cleaning, which will normally solve the problem. ;)

Many thanks Nodge, I tried to buy a new switch thinking it was now 17 years old, but confusing information as to what type I had, so, being disabled I used my phone set to face cam, stuck that under the dash to find what of 2 types of switch it was.. Seems its the more boxy looking type, as i have a TD4 Automatic HSE version, with cruise control so has an extra bit to be plugged in for brake cancelling of cruise control.. But, it was actually fuse number 2 blown causing problems lol - quick fix for now then... Just saying, during the journey I never had cruise on (rarely use it TBH) so that circuit is out the equation but I found that during a succession of traffic light stops I had knocked the auto gear selection to the right giving me ?? split gears or something,(cant remember) noticed as it would not change gear after start off, quickly knocking back into drive changed gear, was after that i noting 2 amigos/ So, I guess your point of overloaded circuit somewhere popped the 15 amp fuse/ thanks... Ian.B.

Been out today, all seems fine, love my Freelander 1 not as big or versatile as my previous 3 door disco TD1 but my hippo is just fine...
Had a good car wash to get its fine wind blown sand and salt off, looks super shiny now.
thanks all.
I got an almost new Scooter to jet wash when I get my mind In gear
Its all almost new NON Vespa, sold one Vespa Classic to pay for it.
All automatic / linked brakes via hand control levers = am disabled so Its better for me.
The scooters EFI petrol Euro 4 spec / just bought a book on the EFI..Its got Co2 sensors and engine warning light to tell if theres a problem.. The good news Is only 1 AMIGO on it - lol... NO MOT for the next 2 years is good news..
Got to keep my mind and tired body active.. Have a good weekend all.
