Got a sniff on a Disco chassis & axles for not a lot of money - no engine or running gear though.

For the price of an MOT rust failure I would have thought you would have got a whole one for not a lot of money. .Look at some of the tat @Marmaduke has found,;););)..LOL............You going doozil or V8?

Cheers

Yeah, wish I’d not thrown them two away :D
Not decided yet on doozil or V8 yet - open to suggestions - 8’s rev lower iirc, Tdi’s not so fickle in mud / water.

If you go diesel you can have more fun. or 2 litre petrol rover engine
V8 too easy to break.
My racer still sat at work waiting for me to get the urge again

I reckon that could be a whole new post by itself, could have some good arguments either way..... You could get a 300tdi really cooking with some upgrades I suppose.

Cheers

That was what I’d been reading - carbs can be a sod.
Probably go TDi as I have experience of them an also some spares for the 300

I can see a fred coming when I decide what I’m gonna do...

I should take some pics for you.
300tdi tuned to within a inch of its life. Running a charge cooler not intercooler. Temp probe where the erg valve was so I don't melt pistons.
Runs on red as it was classsed as agriculture motor bonus of once living on farms. ;)
Oh & there is a rule of induction. This increase your engine size by I think 1/3
go on get sourcing your parts & building.

Looking at it, the sensible thing would be to locate a rolling chassis only.
Then I don't have to bugger about taking the body off a Disco and throwing it away.

I think you will be lucky to find a rolling chassis, I cannot see many taking the time / effort to take the rusty old body off and then just leave the rolling chassis.

But you may be lucky.......

You could remove the body in man-handable chunks with a decent grinder.

Cheers

So I have just looked at my racer. Can't believe what it has become.
Wings bolt on.behind the front number are headlights for night comps.(scarey stuff) Tubular frame underneath. Twin shock mounts all round.
I will clean the bush off & take some more if needed for help/information

£1.50 and a Twix?

Interesting your is manual...
Also like the rear rad - saves it from mud I guess, but is yours rear engine'd or simply lots of tube?

Ouch!
Looking at things, I may go CCV first - I think someone on here did this one;

Part of the reason for looking at the whole idea is the whole build element.

If you are serious about Safari, or modded trialling, I would join the AWDC. I haven't been in it for years, and only drove in RTV trials, but AWDC were very helpful and friendly, all the experienced people were happy to give advice.
In those days, most went with Rover V8, and I would imagine they are still the best choice, lots in reserve, because they were originally a 5 litre engine, and plenty of parts around, and quite cheap and simple to work on.

Got me membership thing in yesterday.

V8 was my initial thought, but as stated above, they can be fickle, especially the twin carbs!
Also, for ease, unless one pops up (very cheap - read 'Free'), to bugger about with a TDi Chassis to get one to fit is just a pain.

Good result, think you will be pleased with the service. They are good guys.
