Over there
As per the title, they use to sell Defender seats of the bucket style that had no padding etc. Went for about £200

Buggered if I can remember the name.

I don't want a seat, but they also did a Safari Comp chassis iirc...which is what I wanted to look at

Ask a question.... used to comp & scrutiner comp/trials.
& built 3 compers:)
Oh & I used to enjoy the "blue book"
Oh, this is the start of an idea, nothing more... just seeing what you'd need in terms of vehicle / support / money (prolly lots!) and MSA license etc...

The company I can't remember in the OP use to do a cage / chassis thing that again I can't remember.... Tomcat?

There the ones....;)
Go on MSA website & when they send you a clubmans licence you will receive a blue book. This is what specs you have to build to.
I brought full cage from QT and rear cross member.it was flat packed and space frame(wings etc)
Yep it is expensive. Transport to race, entrance fee about £100
What area you from?

I'm on the IOW
Slightly confused as to what licence as there seem to be lots to choose from.

Lowest licence needed
Non race clubmans. Most clubs use these. As average speed increases you up your licence to the required category.
We used to travel up to 250miles for a day's racing(Wiltshire based)
Motor fitted in a lorry if we need a weekend away like bank holidays 2 days racing.
Not much racing down here.
Scorr 4x4 is a local club but you still have to travel.
Most clubs awdc will have a srutineer you can ask questions to & they will help & look at builds to ensure these are correct.
Good luck

There is a difference between comp & challenges motors
Look at rear stays on space frame they should go down to the chassis on a comper.
Malcom builds good motors & I have raced with him on many occasions.
Chat with him he gives good guidance.
Motor on clip is a whitbtead & also shows a blue qt Landrover.
Hope the clip does not put you off

Ouch!
Looking at things, I may go CCV first - I think someone on here did this one;
http://brunger.org.uk/CCV_Build.html

Part of the reason for looking at the whole idea is the whole build element.

Whitbteads also do nice 88" motors.
This link is my motor built on shortened range chassis to 88" wheel base running 300tdi.
This was its first time out. Built in 3 months over long weekends. Between farm work seasons,
Used to share the driving to cut down costs. Keep thing standard to make repairs easier

That looks the sort of thing I'm on about!

I think starting on CCV may then be a good skills / experience base to move on if I want to.
Challenge isn't really my bag... best start looking for a Rangie or Disco chassis...

Racing on tidworth.local to you;)
One was airlifted out. The Following week awdc raced & two were airlifted out on the same course but a different corner. Comping can be dangerous.
Trialing is rolling in slow motion. :)

& a good welder, alminum sheets
Lots of tea & an understanding Swmbo who can spanner if needed :)
Have fun
Too early to look for the 5th Wheel Trailer, crew uniforms and corporate sponsorship?:D
Got a sniff on a Disco chassis & axles for not a lot of money - no engine or running gear though.
