I just saw The Gap on 'weather man walking' on BBC2 Wales. Derek Brockway walks The Gap with a woman from Brecon Beacons National Park? Whilst walking the ROAD she states that the Gap is not accessible to vehicles and highlights how irresponsible 4x4 drivers continue to use the route and are destroying an ancient route!

Now correct me if I'm wrong but I thought it was still open to vehicles during March and September? If it is, then this is yet another example of how authorities and the press take any opportunity to paint off road vehicles in a bad light and to sway public opinion against them.

How shall we respond to this?

It may appear on i-player if you want to see for yourself.

Its a restricted byway, however it had an usual TRO on it too, which banned vehicles except for a limited period (range of dates). This was an anomoly in law - a restricted byway by definition, is restricted to NOT allowing cars on. So a TRO is not needed additionally. But the TRO was used to ALLOW vehicles instead of DISALLOW them. Whether this was possible, or legal, or that its RB status still held - ?????

The anomoly has been resolved now by removing the TRO. So its a plain old restricted byway, therefore no vehicles are allowed.

So now its quite clear - motor vehicles aren't allowed up there!

Not sure if it was the same program, but I saw one recently where they were moning about the damage of 4x4s on the road and the damage.

Then a few minutes later they where talking about the much needed £1000s to repair the tracks because of all the walkers.

Funny how when it is 4x4s damaging, they should be banned - but when it is walkers they should be getting more money from government for repairs.

The irony was apparently lost on them..........................

its jokes people hate 4x4s and keep going on about how bad they are and trashing the roads etc but when the walkers get stuck up in the hills or when thay get snowed in who do thay call on the 4x4s when we are saving them or geting them food as cars can not get around thats cool but otther than that its a no no the answer is if you have a 4x4 get a garage and store it for 11.5 months a year (if they had there way )
