Just caught a glimpse of the new disco 4 Land Rover Discovery 4 (2009 onwards) -  Reviews - MSN Cars - MSN UK

yep, looks like a down market rangie. you would be **** scared of takin it off road just in case you whanged the git against a tree:doh: all those panels and sticky on bits look fookin expensive don't they

I think it looks good but is not reli want a landrover should be about; off roading, dogs, camping ect ect not taking the kids too school.

In short I think it ok but makes a rangie look less superior so devalues it!

I'd not buy a Disco 3 or a Disco 4.

Neither are true Land Rovers, and neither are serviceable by the average owner.

The Disco 2 and the Defenders were the last 'proper' Land Rovers, the Rangie just went too far upmarket, so get a Disco 2 while you can, or even a Disco 1, at least you can do almost all of the work on them yourself.

coz rangies are ****e

what a crock ! range rover front transit rear and a green house for a roof and no proper chassis ! full of electronic rubbish to boot. i dont think many will be used off road even when the second hand market prices are at 2 grand in about 5 years cos they are crapola !

Do I detect an Indian influence in all those pointless frilly bits? Will they be doing a multicoloured paint job with added flags and even more chrome sometime soon Mr Tatra?

If there anything like the disco 3 Ive just had as a courtesy car its a pile of s**t. Ill stick with my disco 1 any day.

what a shock! LR's only (or so it seems) designer strikes again..... crash a new freelander nose first into a new rangerover and paste over a disco3!!!

I think landrover have lost the plot re: target audience with certain models. the discovery seems to have evolved into a 7 seat rangerover, the freelander has evolved into a poor mans RR sport rather than a small 4x4 for 2+3 families with a dog and somehow, defenders are no longer aimed at agriculture but as a fashion statement for people with too much bloody money!

as a brand, they are slowly becoming soft, american looking, overpriced and so far from their original purpose it is almost saddening!!

Shame on you Land Rover - go stand in the corner and think about what you've done. BAD land Rover

Ever since the Camel changed to the "G4" a part of me died inside - I could see everything going all squishy and generic from there on in. Then LR pulled out and it kind of gave a clear message.

The only true Discovery's were the 1's and 2's - after that, for some reason best known to the LR team, they decided to go all poncy and anal.

Disco 3 + 4 are just a glorified Rangerover now.

Freelanders are soft

Defenders I think will always be the more capable vehicle as long as LR don't go farting about with the marketing or features too much. I'd hate for the Def range to go down the same sinkhole as the rest

I thought the original Discovery was a cheap version of the Range Rover?

We have a Discovery 3 TDV6 in the family, nice car inside, but outside it looks like a Range Rover sport crossed with a new Ford Transit van. It's hideous! This looks too similar to the D3, along with all it's woes. Who the hell puts a spare wheel UNDER the back of the car if you're going to make an off road vehicle?? Unless you pay to have this put on it:


And even then, it's too much plastic fantastic to really consider taking off road mefinks. I'd be scared of scratching something I'd paid SO MUCH for..

Not to mention all the problems it has, all electrical.

Stick to 200 and 300 Discovery. ^_^

Discovery 4 my ass, more like Range Rover

Id have one, but dont look very different to the disco 3

I like the look of it - but I agree - they are not going to be seen out on the bush track where me and my Disco 1 will be.

'Real' 4wds have been slowly getting replaced by 'cross-over' vehicles (or what the yanks call 'SUVs') - i.e. 4wds built only for town driving - and thats what has happened to the Disco. Pity.

There will be enough of them sold to make them servicable by the average owner in years to come.

It will be interesting to see if the disco 3 will be as popular as the 200/300 for offroading when they become affordable to the relevant owners.
