On a side note Beastlet went to put his hand on the Defrib cabinet out side the local Tesco, to see if it was one of Bumps.. We waited till he came back to point out that the heaters aren't on in summer :D :bounce:
 
I don't know much about torque settings but this can't be right can it minty?

But now what? Do I have to take it all apart to get more grease in there? If so what size is that big ass nut in there? Will it have caused any damage?

Probably not remove the flange and have a look. in the unlikely event ya do have to take the hub nut off tis a 52mm Socket.

52mm why has the same person tightened it if td5 on or adjusted if before ,only to the bolts securing drive member normally

It shouldn't have altered the bearing locknuts at all and it not easy for the grease to get past the spacer so i'd just tighten up the loose bolts on the drive flange unless you have grease everywhere

I was the grease splatter down the wheel that alerted me to the fact sumit was awry.. So I would say it needs a top up.

I would .. but ..

Undo the five bolts and remove the halfshaft then look at how much grease has been flung off and thrown around and make a judgement call .. Whatever, it's unlikely anything will be broken and more grease is usually good on wheel bearings .. ;)

If it's all good I mostly use blue hylomar, instead of the usual paper gasket, when replacing the drive member bit as I think it seals better. Refit the bolts tightening to about 65Nm

If things look rough, or broken, then the large nuts are 52mm but there is a thin tab washer to sort first. One section of the washer will be bent out to sit over one flat of the outermost nut, you need to bend this flat to remove the washer and nuts. When you get to the inner nut you probably don't want to remove it, just tighten up quite tight, rotate the wheel whilst doing so. Undo the nut, then re-tighten to just a tad more than hand tight, again whilst rotating the wheel .. The wheel should rotate easily and NOT wobble at all .. ;) Flatten out the thin washer, or use a new one and install it then bend a section over one of the inner nut flats. Install the outer nut to (I think to about 60 to 65Nm, but needs checking) quite tight. Rotate the wheel again, checking it's freely rotating and still not wobbling. Refit the halfshaft and bolts as above .. ;)

That's how I do mine anyway .. ;)

OK, similar to above but ..

Remove the plastic cap, remove the circlip and shim/spacers from the splines, remove the drive member, then check bearing nuts/washer as above!!

FFS, sorry .. got carried away typing without thinking .. ;)
