Ok so im 3 weeks in and i think something has gone wrong on every trip out in my Td5 o_O
First journey (2hr drive) ACE red warning ( not cone on since)
Then ive had groaning power steering, what i think is weird vibes/noise from auto box, possible gearbox control module thingy issue, wet drivers seat, water in through boot door top, tramlining in the 18s, hard hard ride, rust in hidden spots.
Im holding it together but after sealing the sunroofs and alpine windows i have now got a new leak parking on flat in rain for the first time; weirdly right in top corner of a pillar passenger side. So possibly corner of screen/rain gutter. I sealed roof bar legs but maybe not well enough. So that to sort.
Plus a telltale sheen of oil after i got out today, a nice blob on the road as i was manoeuvring into the drive. Maybe PS fluid?
Someone tell me ive done the right thing getting a D2. Even my POS disco 300 wasnt this bad!!! Ok maybe not that bad....
Is there a water leak guide 101 somewhere?
Once we get more daylight ill sort her, just gotta get it watertight.
Will keep you posted on this thread.

Keep the faith you'll be fine ;)

Get some 16s on it though. I'm sure @neilly had a link to a waterproofing guide but you're prob spot on with windscreen seal or cant rails/gutters. Mine leaked from cracked sealant in cant rail.

ACE and PAS share same fluid I think so those issues could be linked.

Is the chassis rusty or is it inner arches and door slams on body?

Cheers yep will get some sealant on the gutters when it dries up. Just to be sure, is the cant rail the gutter or the roof side of that same lip? Where should i look for the old sealant?
The previous owner must have had it in a garage as it had so signs of leaks. After 3 weeks on my drive the headlining is wrecked :D
Yeah I actually got some 16s yesterday to fit, its just not right somehow to have a landy on 18s. Ive got some new shocks also for the front just as belt and braces.
Ill get that oil leak sorted in next few months, hopefully it will remain low level for now.
The rust was on the window frames rear doors, but ive treated and filled them so hopefully sorted for now. Also some rust on chassis top and shock mounts at front, again now treated and sealed. The rear chassis is ok and although it is a tiny bit punky in the usual spots, its absolutely fine.
The g.box has had 2 new controllers in 4 yrs according to the history. I read about an A/C drain that exits onto it, so ill have to check that out. It may have just been in between D and N tho, fingers crossed.
Thanks again

I found the Disco 2 water ingress guide and it led me to several gaps and holes in the rain gutter and at the end where it meets the screen. Have sealed them up and the whole gutter from front to back, each side. Also did the screen seal whilst i was at it. Hopeful this will sort it. If you peel back the corner rubber on the screen you can see where holes have formed. Pumped a good bit of sealant under it and put back in place.
The roof is now 60% silicone sealant....

The 16s have made the car much, much nicer to drive. I cant quite believe how poor it was on the 18s, in my opinion anyway. The ride i could cope with but the tramlining was not nice. Thats gone and the ride is significantly better on the 245 70 r16s on there now.
Leaks seem to have been sorted; rain gutter and screen top were obviously the source.
Next job is to install a small sub under the drivers seat. After drying out the carpets that is.....

Good news!

Why don't you start a thread in members vehicles and projects? Keep a log of all the bits you do with loads of pics ;)
