Yup, my TDI 200 is puffin smoke like a lil oll steam train from the top when you remove the oil cap, are there any worthy treatments I can give it to reduce the problem? replacing breather pipes, slick50 ? oil change and flush etc ?

I am budgeting for a new engine at some point ( well new second hand ), when that engine comes out is it worth trying to recon the thing myself, if its nuts and bolts type mechanics I am willing to give it a go, nothing to lose after all....?

TIA

Perfectly possible just the usual problems, money n time, I'd be looking at a cylinder re-bore, new pistons with rings (if your really really lucky just a bore hone and new rings using your old pistons, but you must use a bore ovality gauge to check the bore) but work on a re-bore, a crank re-grind, new bigend/crank bearings, timing belt and a complete gasket set as a minmium then theres a possible cylinder head overhaul, valve guides, valves and cam.

Plus theres the other possible bits, new starter motor because the old ones fooked and won't turn the engine over the higher compression, injectors, injection pump overhaul, the list can be endless and sometimes bottomless pockets are required.
