tdi timing belt tool

Looks simple enough to make should you have some scrap laying around and a bit of motivation, you only need a pulley to use as a template.

the guy who done my belts made a special tool to lock up the crankshaft , saving 2-3 hours work by not having to remove the starter motor , then what looked like a scaffold bar to undo the crankshaft bolt

When i did the belt on my 200tdi i ground a locking pin for the flywheel and that held while i torqued the pulley.
Just used a bolt that went through the wading plug hole without threading, ground the end to be a good fit in the timing slot on the flywheel, then wrapped tape around the bolt to stop it dropping out the hole.

It works @Al2O3 @Disco1BFG .:D:D

Yes, seems to be a top bloke. I got an email this morning to tell me he had put it in the post and what the tracking number was. Very organised, fast and excellent communication. I did mention my Landy being a keeper and I was collecting LR tools to maintain it. He said he's put the other tools in to 'add to your collection'. What a gentleman :) Accepting the fact that I'm ever so slightly autistic, I think it's only fair that when they arrive I install them on the tool board and send him a picture. :D;):p

Hi all, i want to make a tool to lock my crank when loosening/tightening the dreaded bolt, can someone confirm these dimensions please...

70mm long,
90mm outside diameter,
60mm inside diameter,
4 x 8.5mm holes on a 75mm pcd at 90 degree spacing.

I got the size from a search but it seems very long, does anyone know what the distance is from the front of the pulley to the face where the tool bolts is, it would be best to keep it as short as possible.

As far as i know, the inside diameter just has to clear the 27mm socket so any diameter that does so should be ok here.

Many thanks,
Dave

You know what I want to see..............have you moved it??? :D

Cheers
Ok, Ok, I give up! Tell me where you want the carb cleaner :D I'll move it and take a picture to prove it :)

On a serious note. Can't thank you enough for posting about the crank pulley tool and passing on Sean's contact details. Obviously, it's worked out embarrassingly well. Cheer, mate. :)
PS
Was the handle long enough to reach the chassis rail? I can't quite make it out in your picture.

Yes , it sat on the bottom of the rail, on the crush tube that my steering guard fits to. Should work perfectly in both directions. will let you know later this week.

Cheers

+1 - thanks ever so much for that @neilly - with 2 of the "little darlings" to fettle, said tool has been on my wish list for a while. Wish I'd had it when I did the pump change 2 years ago - and SWMBO's timing belt is due in march...

Thanks again :)
