Hi there, my dad has a 200 tdi and we had a 'difference of opinion' on Boxing day regarding the Land Rover on Ice. Basically the Land Rover was having problems getting up our steep drive because 80% of it had ice on it, it is a typical farm drive not a tarmac drive. He said that he had used the low gears and i suggested that he could have used the diff lock as that would have made things easier, he disagreed and said that it wouldn't have made a difference. Please please can someone verify that diff lock would have been a better bet? And am i correct in thinking that with diff lock the wheels turn 'together' as opposed to independently, therefore, being better to use on an icy drive?
Thank you in advance and im sorry if this is a silly question!

You have a series with a 200tdi? Piccies please. We like piccies. :nopics:
diff lock is better - but it only locks front and rear axles together. It does not lock each axle.

Mite be nice to post a bit about yoself in the intro section. :welcome:
:dnfnoob:

Oh Dear!

Im afraid i dont know an awful lot about Land Rovers, im posting this and any other posts for my Dad who isn't very 'computer-literate'. Is it not possible to have a series 200 tdi?
Ps- i can post i pic in a few hours...however, i expect ridicule because, as my friend says, my dad's landy has developed 'Chequer-plate rash'!! ;)

The problem (or not) is that lots of peeps have fitted lots of different injuns to a lot of duiferent landies. So it is possible that yu have a 200tdi series, but they were never made that way. You mayhave a defender or even a discovery for all we know.
Most 200 injuns fitted into a series motor were "de-turboed". Without pics its anybodies guess.

Oh and :welcome:

How many gearlevers does the gearbox have?
Wot colours are they?
Where is reverse- top left or bottom right?
What shape are the headlights- are they in the wings, the grill or just the front?

Hi, do these help?
I shall ask my Dad regarding the 'mystery' Landie!!
Ps- are these the right way up? (i cant tell) :0)

it has a central diff-lock, separates the power 50/50 front and rear. It looks as though it has modular wheels if im not mistaken.

Hello again all, thank you for your patience so far!!

Ok, my dad has said that his Landy is a1990 tdi 200 Short wheel base, phew!!
So, all in all, i was correct in my 'discussion' with him when i said that using diff lock would be more advantageous than simply using Low box-first gear?

Ps- I have a question regarding the heater on this Landy, please can someone point me towards the correct part of the forum to post from now on?
Many thanks in advance! :)

the defender bit - unless its injun related and then yu cam post in the 200tdi bit. :D

stick around - it gets betterer :D

You get a much higher quality of insults and personal abuse in this forum, especially if you have to admit to driving a Slitty, or worse, a Freelander.
