Will a 2003 engine go straight into a 2001 model\? Mate thinks he has a head gasket blown on his. Been advised that the bores may be buggered and if so a 2nd hand engine is the way to go. Apparentkly the later 2002? models have a flow restrictor in the head to impriove cooling? Any help appreciated or point to other threads. Thanks

I am no expert but don't see why not. I think they introduced a CAT to the exhaust in 2003 but that shouldn't affect you if you are using the original exhaust.

It will go straight in but I don't know if it will work.
The EDC3 (euro3) engines have different ECUs, engine wiring harnesses, injectors, radiators and other bits and pieces. I think your mate will have to stick to EDC2 engines, from 1999(8) to 2001.
