Hi , recently joined Landyzone.
After replacing a couple of core plugs on my 1999 Td5 Auto, its now a none starter.
Turning over but not firing up. Been advised its air in the system , apparently this is common with a Td5. Anyone out there who could advise on how to resolve this issue as its frustrating to say the least.
Thanks in advance.

Hello and welcome to the loonyzone.

There have been quite a few discussions recently about this. Might be worth doing a search, top right hand corner.

You would get a better response from owners of the vehicle you have if you place this question in the vehicle forum for what you have, as you do not state if it is a Disco or Defender.

Cheers and Good luck.

I've not heard of a td5 not starting because of air in the coolant. But the way to bleed them (defender td5) is to fill the expansion tanks and undo the bleed screw on the top hose from the rad. fill till coolant comes out the hole and refit the screw.
Then start the motor with the heater on full hot and run and top up as required.

if it's air in the fuel system turn the key to ignition on and pump the throttle 5 or so times quickly to activate the pump bleed procedure.

if that doesn't work and it's a manual give it a bump start. if it fires up straight away it's a starter motor fault which confuses the crank sensor and stops it from starting

The list I made when trying to solve my non-starting issue

Drivers seat
- Oil in ECU (contact cleaner)
- Relays under drivers seat (faulty or corroded - check crimps - yellow is fuel pump)
- Bad ECU earth (run new from battery)
- Check for chaffed loom going over transfer box (from centre seat/cubby)
- Crank Position Sensor (top of bell housing - check sensor/cable/connector)
- Purge fuel system again
- ECU plug connections (corroded or dry joint)

Engine bay
- Inertia switch on bulkhead (check connections)
- Injector plug (fos of engine - contact cleaner)
- Check wiring where it passes engine for melting/chaffing
- MAF sensor
- Starter motor connections
- Starter motor brushes (kit off eBay)
- Injector harness
- Injector copper washers and o-rings

Alarm
- Disable immobiliser (nanocom)
- Cable from immobiliser to ECU (grey-green on Red ECU connector)

Other
- New battery (hankook)
- New fob/battery (lucas 3TXD and program)
- Kick it

Hi, thanks for the replies. Managed to get it running after doing the ignition switch on/off , pedal pumping routine, Fired up after about 4 attempts.
Couple more things now though, Got a rattle /tapperty noise on tick over .Goes when accelerating and general driving but returns when engine idleing.
Any ideas anyone.
Also, is anyone breaking a TD5? I need a set of power steering pipe assembly as the temporary repair hasn't held. Its a 1999 Discovery by the way.
Thanks in advance.

Hi, sorry I wasn't clear .Its a 1999 Discovery. I meant air in the fuel system. I`ve managed to start it now. Thanks for the response though.
