Hi guys
I've used the search and read about priming pump etc so I know what I'm meant to be doing but I believe I have other issues
I have just bought a 02 TD5 which had a heavy knock and misfire and for the price had to be bought, firstly I renewed the inj harness but it was exactly the same so I purchased an inj seal kit which was a simple enough job, after priming the fuel system still nothing so battery was charged but wasn't helped by the clicking starter!!! S/h starter fitted and i thought it must start now!
Sometimes it will fire initially but spin over and sometimes it seems like it's hydraulically locked itself
All injectors where removed again and no5 seemed to have fuel in cylinder so another washer and seal fitted and it fired and ran but a bit rough which I assumed was air still in system anyway I left it running for a few minutes and it just cut out and won't start again
Sorry for the long explanation but the more you know the better
Your thoughts please

Hi,

Have you checked the fuel pressure at the FPR? I assume you can hear the pump running when you prime it? When you prime it does the EML light turn on?
You say it had a heavy knock, what do you think was causing that?
Have you thought of getting the injectors serviced?
Would injector balance show if one is badly in need of a service?

Cheers

Thanks for reply I haven't checked fuel pressure yet but it started first time before injectors where removed, I phoned the local diesel specialist and they don't/can't check this type of injector which is a pain!
EML flashes when pedal pressed 5 times
I'm in Essex if anyone knows of a local place

should I go and buy a hawkeye Or nanocom? My dad has a TD5 and a few mates have them so maybe it would be handy

I have a nanocom, great bit of kit, But I would seriously consider looking at the Hawkeye TOTAL if I was going to buy again. Only thing I think they do different is that the hawkeye will not program keys using the code inside the key fob. But whichever you get make sure it does what YOU want. The TOTAL will work on nearly all the LR product range out of the box as I understand it, ( I have not had the chance to play with it yet)

Cheers

I can hear the pump which made all sorts of noises to start with but did quieten down

Has just under half a tank of diesel

Yes was going to buy the hawkeye total £270 near me

Hi mate it could be the injectors! Some times when they get pulled they don't like it...

Try annealing the washers...

Also very important to release all fuel from head before refitting the injectors

Not sure I can offer much advice as iv only had my disco a week or so but I'm researching so I know what to look out for, have you tried the fuel filter ?? The odd noises from the in tank pump seem to be from duff fuel filters .

I to have the intermittent starter fault and have a repair kit on the way along with some other goodies. The Hawkeye total sounds like a good bit of kit seeing as I have both a p38 v8 and disco td5 I might be tempted to buy one.

Good luck with your repair

It had a new head last year apparently and timing chain etc looks new

I meant to say it had about 15 litres of oil/diesel in the sump which I have drained and replaced

It is a later engine with green injectors so shouldn't have cracking issues should it?

Thanks i might change the filter tomorrow but that doesn't answer the locking up

Unfortunately diesel in sump happens to all td5 mate... Can be injector seals or cracked head

We're the cam lobes ok?

i also had a knock every now an then with a bit of white smoke
my issue was intermittent it hasn't done it for long time . .since I added in some 2 stroke oil to my fuel every now and then.
I'm no land rover mechanic... but I do work on similar set ups that have cam driven injectors

from my experience cam driven injectors can un prime them self's (basically stuck open ) and also depends where the cam is resting when engine turns off
this is normally an issue when injector cleaner is used it might take a while for the injector to get diesel varnished up again
