I suppose it is because the exhaust gases squeezing through the narrow gap between where it has warped and the head make the noise.Since everything else seems to need replacing on this cursed truck I wouldn’t be surprised. I am wondering though how a warped manifold makes turbo whistling noises
If you are worried about this, look at it and you should be able to see soot marks where it is happening. Sadly, this is often accompanied by broken and/or lost studs and nuts.
In my case the gap between the warped bit and the head was very visible.
When I first heard it I thought it was an aux belt squealing.
Knowing the pain it was to fix, drilling out snapped off studs etc, I honestly hope it is your turbo, it'll be easier to fix.
Plenty of stuff on here about fixing the manifold though, should you need it.
This is why at LR shows you can buy modified manifolds with the webbing removed.
I don’t think it’s the manifold. It’s been fully rebuilt so it’s still fairly clean so it’s easy to see soot marks.

Mine whistles since I deleted the EGR. Was a little disconcerting at first, but I don't mind it now.
I’ve never had an EGR so I can’t compare it.

I've got a 2004 TD5 and has a loud whistle. Nanocom shows <1.1 boost and feels down on power so think something is not working right!
I posted a video here interested to know if yours sounds similiar.
When I bought it, it came with a 'sports' exhaust with no cat, and now I am thinking of going back to standard. Too loud and I am getting old

That’s exactly how mine was. My boost was 1.1 but it just adjusted up easily to 1.4. I changed the exhaust for the same reason; it just droned and annoyed me! But now I can hear this bloody whistle! I wouldn’t mind too much but the rolling road says it’s down by about 20-30hp from expected. Hence why I’m wondering about this.I've got a 2004 TD5 and has a loud whistle.
