has anybody replaced the contacts and plunger using the kit from repair kits uk? guy rekons can be done without removing the starter from the engine.

I saw that pic too, for me it seems fookin hard that way............i've replaced it by removing the starter.....believe me, that's the easyest way.....it's only the upper bolt that makes u a bit of hard time but if u have a handy approach wont be such a pain in the arse.......It took me half an hour to remove the starter, 20 mins to replace the contacts and 15 mins to put it back...........for the upper bolt u need a tubular spanner that is just 3cm longer than the starter(or a flexible one).....undo it from underneath
 
I did this last year with the car on a lift, cheapo guy must have fixed solenoid on cheap, probably have to take off this time with jack so aiming to go by feel, thoughtful land rover designers used different size of bolt for the top one, so considerate of them.

:doh: I forgot to remind u that..........it's not nice to figure this out crawling under the car..........my job was easy cause I have a canal in the garage
