So the next problem (in a long line of problems) is the car is having trouble starting. Just clicks then nothing. Goes after about 15-20 tries so thinking it's the solenoid.

Without booting up rave where is the starter motor/solenoid? Hoping the contacts just need cleaned!

If it’s F1 TD4, it’s at the front, slightly to the right of center as you look in the engine bay.
Remove the battery tray first.
2 bolts IIRC - 1 is ‘hidden’
1 bolt holding the main wire on

You can buy replacement contact kits and plunger on the bay for pennies.

@Arctic2 already showed you…!

First clean the spade end to see if it's got any corrosion, se if the car starts, if not then remove the starter motor, change out the contacts and plunger.

Rover 75 link but the FL1 TD4 is the same.

Good job !! Depends on the amount of wear how long it will last. If not deeply eroded you will get a few more years.
Well just drove to the shops and when I came out took 2 turns to get going 😅 so might still need it sooner rather than later. I'll see how it goes for next few days.

2 turns is better than 20-30 that was before though!

Update: gave the contacts a good clean and seams to be starting on the button again 😃 not saying I won't need the fix kit but I'll see how it goes next few days 😉
I'm presuming you just cleaned the spade contact and maybe the earthing point of the starter motor, you have not actually removed the starter and replaced the contacts and plunger.

Any Freelander that has covered 75,000 or more should have the contacts and plunger changed out, it's not an hard job and will last you another 75,000 miles plus

Thanks Artic, yeah didn't remove it. Mines done nearly 160,000 and I'm pretty sure it's never been done so it's a bit over due 😅
