I'm thinking of getting a TD5 Defender in the near future, which i'll be using for offroading on P&P days, I currently have a 1990 200tdi 90, which is quite reliable (as far as the electrics go :D), but it's showing it's age now and the chassis is going to need a bit of work soon (out-riggers and the odd patch). I've heard differing opinions on the reliability of TD5's due to the complex electric's and I wondered how they are effected offroading and in particular deep wading??? I don't want to be spending all my hard earned on a car that keeps throwing up fault codes everytime it goes through a muddy puddle! :D Any thoughts from TD5 owners?

I've driven them quite a lot through deep water, deeper than the book says, without problems. Never stopped and let the seat box fill with water though.
The doors still leak.

I've never had a problem with mine when offroading or wading. I am a little nervous of water reaching the ECU but I've driven with water over the bonnet quite a few times and have yet to have a problem. I haven't let my landy stand in water over 2ft deep though. Thats the bit I'm most worried about.

I know buckshot's also had no problems with wading or offroading in his. We both have a spare throttle potentiometer though just in case.
