Td5 power loss and cut out

Eventually had to admit defeat and send my 110 to the local specialist.

3 times it died on me on the way there. All when driving uphill strangely. Have to prurge they system with the old 5 press pedal technique and after some 20-30 seconds cranking she fires up....with persuasion of my right foot!

Anyways I have new washers and o- rings aswell as air bleed valve for them to fit. The fuel pump relay looked a bit worse for wear so I've changed that too a d cleaned up connections.

The pump gurgles like hell so theres clearly air getting in from somewhere. Fuel filter housing also cleaned up and new filter fitted as process of elimination.
Some have said it may be the pump but I'm not entirely convinced as I've seen plenty posts where the pump sounds terrible but isnt actually the fault so I've held off that for now.

Its accompanied by some white smoke and a very strong diesel smell when fired up from cold

The fuel gauge bounces around when cranking aswell? Never seen that before. This is when I'm trying to start it up after its conked.

Am I on the right track with injector washers etc??

Any help greatly appreciated. Dunno what I'd do without this forum.
