Disco 2 TD5 Non-starter, dashboard dead

Hi all,
Have an issue with my 1998 Td5. When I insert the key and turn it, I get no lights come up on the dashboard. Nothing, nada. Turning the key further, still no lights, and no ignition at all.
Any functions that do not require the ignition to be on still work okay, e.g. locking / unlocking, hazards, sidelights, full beam (on a pull of the stalk). The ignition recognises that there's a key inserted as I get the annoying bonging with the door open.
The battery is in good condition and I can't see any fuses that have blown.
I've changed the rotary switch on the back of the ignition and still nothing.
I've had a look through the forum, and similar threads seem to have some lights coming on, which I don't.
Any ideas please?

Hi, did you measure if voltage is coming to that switch you replaced ? The interior fusebox has a brown plug on it's front which is connected to the ignition, see if you have voltage on the brown wire, if not check fusible link FL8 in engine bay fusebox, if you have voltage make a bridge with a piece of wire across the brown and yellow wires on that plug and if the dash comes to life the problem is still on the ignition circuit, maybe the barrel doesnt actuate the switch or a wire is interrupted or something, troubleshooting is needed

Hi, have checked the brown wire and have 12v there. If I bridge to the yellow wire, nothing happens. Same thing with both rotary switches.

Then check fuse F27 there and if it's good the fusebox is fubar. Can you start the engine ? if yes the problem might be the instrument pack too

Fuse F27 is still intact. No, the engine would not start. As said previously, I get no response from the dash or ignition when turning the key.

The only things that still work are those that don't need the ignition on.

What could have gone wrong with the fusebox? Is there any easy way of confirming?

Those fuseboxes are very common failure due to water ingress or corrosion, the simple and easy way is to swap it with a known good one, plenty of them for not much money, here's the procedure https://www.landyzone.co.uk/land-rover/discovery-2.366622/#post-5048785

Well, picked up a good fusebox and managed to fit it this morning. Now have a dash that comes to life on the first turn of the key. Lots of clicking as it synced to the car, and then the old girl started with no problems.

Yeah, never understood that. Been a member of Landy forums for many years (although had to start a new account for this query as I lost all my credentials) and have always responded and said thanks. It's the least you can do when people go out of their way to help.

Cheers. Quite easy when you know what to replace, it's just the diagnosing the issue, especially when you can't plug the Nanocom in to get any codes because the ignition is not working!!
