So its that time of year, so went the pride and joy, and with the wife at the wheel, Great news passed with a replacement brake pipe and the guy took great care to explain the advisory to her, Unfortunately it has been simplified via the female mind to just the pertinent bits.

"He has advised we need to replace the upper front shock mounts, its only held on by 4 bolts to the chassis"

I am thinking this is the shock towers but not too sure, is this a part prone to cause a failed MOT.

Did a search and only found disco 1 shock towers are TD5 disco 2 the same?

Hi - it sounds like the MOT guy is talking about these:
D44 Discovery 2 heavy duty turrets

There must be some corrosion in the origionals.
Disco 2 shocks are different to disco 1 - so I would guess the shock towers will be too.

Its an easy replace - have a look at Nicks excellent web page (this is about replacing front suspension bushes, but you can see he describes how to remove the turret).

Hope this helps,
Ian

Thanks Ian that was very helpfull, do you recon you get two turrets for that price or is that each

Cheers Gordon

Just motd mine yesterday 2001 model needed offside rear caliper and that was it.

nice, and some would have us believe that disco's are always going wrong..lol:doh:

I used to have a Golf and rear caliper replacement was almost a service item, the handbrake used to seize every winter, still nice to have it back with a years ticket, wonder if the ERG removal will get through this time next year, once the new rules come in.

Dont worry about it mate... advisory so its not that bad...... got mine on Saturday... clean sheet last year bar a N/S/F tyre near legal limit....

See what Saturday has install for my MOT

well we will all keep our fingers crossed for an easy out...I know its only an advisory....but try telling that to my wife and how "I just dont care about the children's safety"...lol

have a good day SAT

I'm sure its 2 for £90 - but these should then last longer than the rest of the car!
:doh:lol..I know that feeling at 189000 i keep expecting it to give up any day. but just got told by the mech that did the brake pipe that he though it was one of the nicest hes driven...so who to say...I like it which is the most important bit. but getting back to the shock towers that seem reasonable.

Dam company cars .........plus side is it dont cost me in tax or fuel...lol
