Ok I give up. Been having trouble starting first thing in the morning but OK rest of the day. First start always clouds white smoke. Decided to change injector washers and seals. Done this before no problem.
This time, it did restart but ran very rough, lots of white smoke and died after 15 secs or so. Reckoned injectors not sealing so took them out again and cleaned and double checked seats. This time started quite well, still lots of smoke but got rougher then died never to start again. had the injectors out yet again, cleaned & checked but seem OK. Now not even offering to fire no matter how long you crank. Fuel has been purged several times but remains noisy at pump as if still air in it. Also hooked up to second battery that is known to be 100% Any ideas out there? getting desparate!:mad:

No reusrd the same new ones. Bought them off ebay but as ever they were brit part. Surely a copper washer is a copper washer? What could go wrong! Yes! Btitpart!

well known for crap copper washers, ive been down that road myself

If you are going to reuse copper washers then always anneal them first as they harden with time and heat. Heat the washer to red hot then let cool naturally. Do not dunk in water as it creates hard and soft regions which wont compress evenly and thus wont seal. You can do this two or three times before throwing away. It also works with sump/gearbox drain plug washers.

Ok Shifty et all, tried the annealing trick, put it all back together and hey presto! The jobs a good un! Still will get genuine washers in reserve.

hi I have similar problem, I have 03 td5 defender, with all the air lock problems, any, got new copper washers, and O rings from landrover, did each injector seperatly, but my problem is with the adjusters,

when I raise the cam shaft lobe to max , I screw slot adjuster un till bottom out meaning touching or in the cup of the valve stem in the spring, but if I go back 1 turn ,I don't have enough tread on the adjuster,so the locking nut ends in the middle neither up or down ,

I did try reducting back 1/2 a rev, but didn't start after lots of bleeding process,

so here I am again asking help,

the washers I did remove were noticeably thinner , and worse for wear,

steve

Very odd indeed! Can only suggest that you check the injectors are properly seated and torqued correctly. Same with rocker shaft. Pretty obvious, sure you have done that
At a loss otherwise. Good luck!
