The in tank fuel pump on my td5 has started doing it's ends today and is squealing really bad, it did this before but then stopped is there any thing that causes this or is the pump knacked? Cheers.

the filters in the pump can cause this. There are 2 one is on the out side and one inside the pump you have to remove the pump casing with care to do the 2nd one this cured mine.

replace the fuel filter with a genuine one before u do anithing else

ive just fitted a britpart filter on a td5 defender and i must admit i have noticed a reluctance to self bleed properly. havent driven the car yet but have been through a couple of bleed cycles and there still seems to be air in there.

it might pass with a drive down the road, or is it a recognised fault with pattern filters?

I observed that with genuine(or branded OE) filter the pump is more quiet and the engine runs smoother...and be aware to not let the old seal in the cap, they used to remain stucked there.

ive fitted hundreds of britpart filters ,never had many issues ,you obviously can get poor individual filter ,but last time i had issue it was a genuine one ,the faults for me seem to lie more with filter head and pump

thanks guys, i'll see how it goes, i didnt fill the filter before i fitted it because i thought it would self prime fairly easily.

i will see how it goes!

and yes good point, i fitted new filter and it didnt feel right, i then realised the old seal was stuck to the filter head!

cheers :)

My result:

Car was a bit difficult starting and had a noisy pump. Wouldn't prime up it seemed. Decided to take it for a drive as it had only moved on and off the forecourt since service.

After a 10 minute squirt it is now 100% again. Must have just needed a bit of extra flow.

Cheers.
