Hi all am new to the land rover thing, i have a series 2 disco and would like to know if you think its a good idea to fit a egr bypass kit.

Go for it and when you remove the EGR look at the crap inside it. One of the cheapest mods you can do.

Sorry to butt in but there are two different egr bypass kits on eBay. One for £2.50! And the other £30+ which looks like some kind of pipe attaches to it.

Can anyone recommend the correct kit for a 2000 td5?

Kind regards

yes mate, the full kit not just the blanking plate. The adaptor is to replace the EGR valve completely the other one just blanks it off

I've just fitted just the blanking plate as I was given one by a mate and I can't Belive what a diferance it's made, better MPG, smother, quieter the works.
Makes you wonder why they bother fitting them at all. (I no the reason my they do)

They fit them because the car makers are chicken scared to admit they knew all along that EGR is a huge waste of time and money.

EGRs waste up to ten percent of the fuel in your tank!

My TD5 went from an average of 27 mpg to 30+ instantly when the EGR was taken out, and it goes better too.

they fit them for emission reasons not performance

Oh no they don't.

They fit them ONLY because ignorant politicians have been duped into passing laws and regulations forcing the car makers to fit them, and to force them on us.

If car makers were not FORCED to fit them, none of them would.

Everyone KNOWS it's a lot of crap, but they will never admit it now.
Too many people are making money from it, just like the myth of global warming.

they are for emission purposes as is the tuning of engines now whether you agree with the politics or not, personally i remove/blank them

I've just recently blanked my EGR, and replaced the valve for the tube, and i have noticed a difference in driving and engine responsiveness.

Also this was in the air intake manifold:

If that doesn't persuade anyone to do it, I don't know what will!

They say it helps CLEAN RUNNING!
Ha Bloody Ha.

That filthy crap goes in the cylinders, burns, and goes down the exhaust!

Ok, Ive been running my 110 td5 for over 6 years now and finally going to do it. Not sure why I never went for it before, but now Ive got my head around how to, its on the cards.

I intend getting a decat and straight pipe too so hope I can find one supplier who'll do all three bits of kit. I rekon with that done she'll be a rocket in comparison.

I have a couple of Q's for you well knowledged boffs though. 1st, is it likely to give the transmission any extra greif? Its a 2002 with 90k on it but it had a hard towing life! Also, 2nd, what happens to the gas that will be blanked off, do I need to open a sump breather or summat?

Cheers, Pete.
