TD5 ECU interchange

Can you change the ECU on an early TD5 (2000) for a later TD5, say 2003 which then makes it easier to tune via chipping.

Need to check Microcat, the later one 'possibly' replaces the earlier one anyway. I'll have a look tonight if nobody comes up with an answer before.

Yes you can
I am informed that the later ECM is retrospectively compatable and is a replacement for the earlier ones.

Brilliant chaps, I have access to another ECU from a 2003 TD5 so will give it a try. I will let you know the outcome.

I don't but the garage from where I bought the TD5 also buys a lot of insurance jobs, which from the forecourt is not obvious, but the electric radiator fan was siezed on mine and he sent me out the back to the workshop to collect a replacement. I was shocked to see about 30 TD5's and about the same in 200 /300 's plus similarly with RangeRovers, all in various stages of being stripped. Although they sell all the common items like headlamps, doors, engines, gearboxes etc., quite quickly, obviously that is not the same for items like ECU's, so he has loads on the shelf, and because I bought the disco from them, they let me have parts cheapo.

I am looking for someone that sees a range of TD5's.
I dont know whether you know it, but my company makes cables :nospamhere: - but we are having a prob with an ECU extension harness that works fine on the older TD5's, but throws up a MIL light on the ones with re-programmable ECM's. Cant seem to find the problem. Nothing seems to be wrong, yet it appears to cause this fault.

i think you would be better of giving that ECU to me just to test it for you
