i have a w reg td5 discovery. the oil cooler failed resulting in the oil going into the water system. me and a mate have replace the oil cooler but cannot stop an oil leak to the chain tensioner. we've tried several copper washers and have just got a new tensioner but its different. has anyone else had this problem and do anyone have any advice please

As far as i know there are two kind of tensioners, LHP000080(black dot, 15P engine) and LHP000090(blue dot 10P engine), u need the opposite of what u bought....though it might be a superceded code issue but as u say what u have it's different than what u got....

UPDATE i have got the right tensioner and a new copper oil washer yet the oil still leaks out between the washer and the tensioner. we have tried various washers and even annealed a copper one but cannot stop it leaking. any ideas anyone please

Ive just spend nearly two days on the same issue, 5 copper washers later & its still leaking. Ive cleaned the bolt, and run some very fine sand paper over the cylinder head end. Very frustrating:confused:, still searching google for tips

Cheers, I hadn't thought of that, but i did aneal two copper washers & put some read hermatite on it, & ........... still a small leak. I an goint to file the head end to ensure a good seal. Thats tomorrows job, day 4

todays update..... still leaking, but it took about 10 seconds to start leaking this time, so slow progress being made.
Plan another 30 mins with sandpaper to ensure the head end in flat, then 2 washers, hermatite, then leave over night to set. maybe some treadlock poured over tomorrow & may even put some epoxy resin over the lot in desperation.

I got to ask, how would i check for a crack in the threaded part of the head?

a dye check will work or a ultrasonic test, possibly x-ray

so you are sanding a machined surface with sand paper?
