Hello all, I am after a bit of expert knowledge please. I have a 110 1999 defender TD5 special vehicle. Special as in It's like a commercial harder suspension, axles etc. My questions are:

Will a disco transfer box gear it up? And what exact transfer box do I need please?

The guy I bought it from said he had the transfers box changed but I don't know what T box he put in it (he didn't know either!). My defender drives perfectly, but she seems happy at 50 mph, at 60 mph she is working hard and if I push her to 70 it feels like I am beating her to death.

It feels to me the T box is too low a gear. Maybe he put a TDi transfer box it her? I don't know. The torque is not a problem as it feels she could pull a house down but she is low on top end speed, and quite thirsty on diesel, about 340 miles per tank. And no the T box is not in low ratio Lol. Does anyone know the correct T box I can buy to gear her up? I have seen Disco TD5 T boxes, but they seem to have a lever on a cable, my lever on my Defender is bolted to the gearbox I think. Any ideas please?

td5 disco box wont be of use unless you use it to swap gears from , as it has no speedo location or diff lock in some , 300 tdi disco box will fit ok but you wont have high/low switch though you could fit a manual switch in the cab,

Generally any disco t.box will fit, and sort the gearing out. There are loads of threads on here regarding it, do a search and you will get all the info you need. You will need a switch to let the ECU know when your in low range.

Bummer. Knew it wouldn't be as simple as just swapping it. Will a T D i transfer box bolt straight on? Thanks so far guys.
