td5 disco problem

coming back from mot station,stopped at a set of lights,pressed sport mode started driving off and m and s lights and engine light came on,no throttle and when I move the gear lever it wont register 1,2,or 3 even when the lever is in position 1,changed the battery for a new 1(had to jump start for mot as not used it for a long time) and still wont do anything am I right in thinking the xyz switch has spit its dummy out.

if no throttle response at all just idling the throttle position sensor is very suspect and that's enforced by the engine management(MIL) warning cos for XYZ switch you should get only M+S warnings without MIL
