hello have a running issue with my 1999 td5 90 tried all the usual things but no change, can anyone recommend someone on the hampshire west sussex boarder who runs diagnostics and understands the td5 thanks in advance for any help.

it starts first turn every time but as you drive it doesnt have the pull it used to have then after a couple of miles you try to accelerate and its like something turns the fuel off it just runs flat for 20 seconds then takes off ,change gear same thing then it clears and drive okay. seems to smoke more on acceleration than it used to but just feels flat to what it used to like

Check your turbo wastegate isn't seized. It sounds like yer gonna be needing a can of wd40 and a pair of mole grips. ;)

Also give your MAP sensor a clean.

Mine done it when it had a tiny amount of oil left in the red plug to the brain after I changed the injector loom. Only when it had warmed up and the oil was more viscous.

It sits around for weeks, sometimes months, at a time without being driven:eek:
That would do it then, first one I ever saw that was stuck was an army one bound for Iraq,it had been in store for months.Twas a 110 full of electronics, towing a pop up radar.Back when the army wasn't supposed to have any TD5's....
None of the local main dealers were prepared to go onto an army base to sort it out.

That doesn't surprise me although I think the lr assist guy at that point was actually working for Hartwells landrover in Bristol itself rather than for what was then mondial assistance.

I freed mine off before taking the landy over to the Isle of Wight a couple of weeks back. It drive lovely all the way to the ferry. When I went to drive off on arrival on the island I discovered I had no turbo power. It turned out that some tosser (me:eek:) hadn't done the lock nut on the wastegate rod up and the ferries engine vibrations had unwound the linkage.:D

I'd try the wastegate and MAF as above but if no joy, Chris the service manager at Keith Gott in Alton might not be too far away. He used to work for Autologic or similar and knows his stuff.

thanks for the ideas its been fully serviced cleaned map sensor unplugged maf ran terrible checked wastegate ,nice and free, removed egr it has had the cat removed ,the smoke i mentioned is thick black(excess diesel lack of air?)was thinking pump but issue is allways at low demand high revs it flys
