Just checking, modern type wiring runs thin wall and at connections such as pins is all to easy to have a poor contact or pin out
You wanna try working on a range rover with a wiring issue
Hmm nasty

Hahaa oh dear!
May sound daft can I just stick the end of the wire in the ground to give a good earth on the sender lol?

Update, With the sender wire grounded the gauge still sits at cold. When I take the sender wire and swap it with the earth on the gauge it reads max.

I couldn't earth the sender out on the outer casing with the wire in place as normal and check the gauge as on me own, only earthed the normal sender wire out and gauge sat at the bottom

So if the actual sender wire that runs to the gauge when earthed doesn't raise the gauge, yet a fresh wire from the gauge terminal to earth sends gauge to max
Just for clarity is this wot u got
If so there's your prob that sender wire needs a continuity test as the mad hat man suggests

Yes, I swapped terminals on the gauge, so the gauge earth I put into the sender terminal of the gauge and the gauge sender feed I put to one of the earth terminals on the gauge it went to max.
I've just continuity tested the sender wire by the sender to the sender plug on the loom and there was nothing.
Where do I go from here?

You could run a wire from sender through bulkhead to speedo plug
Then you've bypassed the wire
Try this and if gauge rises with warm up then bingo
I'd investigate why correct wire has failed later when your fresh and not so fed up
but make sure any temp wirings safe and secure

Tomorrow I will just test from start to end Untill I stop getting continuity then can solve from there what's stopping it and why.
Cheers

This is what I've done to start with, ran a fresh new wire from the sender to the loom plug. Just to rule out the old loom wire.

Continuity go from the multi plug into the lower speedo plug on pin 5 fine, it doesn't come out from the speedo on pin 9. Problem lay within the speedo or does the speedo need to have power and pluged in etc for it to work?

Anyone know of where I can get a diagram of inside the td5 speedo???
Need to see what's going on inside and why I'm not getting the feed that goes in on 5 and out on pin 9 with nothing?
