TD5 D2 TC light comes on intermittently

When driving my D2 the TC light will come on and it pulls to the passenger side for a few seconds and then back to normal??? no other lights come on, and on startup all lights go off. Its like it thinks the TC is needed? I am thinking of buying a obd2 reader if this is not a simple fix, will a icarsoft do the job? as a hawkeye is expensive for just one vehicle and then have to buy more codes for different vehicle. any help would be great.

It does sound like it might be a problem with on or more of the wheel sensors, ABS and Traction control are both dependant on the wheel speeds. The only way of finding out definitely is to get the codes read.
Which leads to the next problem, the diesel Disco 2 is not fully OBDII compatible and as such the iCarSoft thing is highly unlikely to give you sensible or truthful results.
The only devices known to work on a diesel Disco 2 are Nanocom, Hawkeye, Lynx or Testbook. Both the nanocom and Hawkeye are unlocked for one vehicle TYPE on purchase.

Just to make sure it is also happening when driving totally normally in a straight line? As TC light coming on is of course just to tell you when its kicked in, just in case!

There is an unbalance between the sensor's inputs so the ECU interprets it as wheel slip and activates TC without logging a fault code as long as the sensors are passing the stationary self test, was a hub replaced lately? , it's not uncomon https://www.landyzone.co.uk/land-rover/td5-traction-control-issue.288205/#post-3557291

I have just bought it so not sure if its had a hub replaced or any work done on it? I will have to get the wheels off and have a look. thanks sierrafery

Mine has new front hubs, occasionally flashes the TC light, accompanied by the usual "grating" noise.
Speed bumps or very rough roads can do it.
I wouldn't worry about it.

The real thing would be to plug in a nanocom and watch live sensor inputs on straight road and if you see one which differs from the others there's the culprit, if the TC becomes very annoying while driving remove relay R10 frrom engine bay fusebox untill you fix it, this will trigger the 3 amigos and the TC will be disabled, the brakes will work normally but without ABS activity

The unit which @sierrafery has already mentioned, the Nanocom Evo is the diagnostics code reader which I have too. I don't think it's the cheapest, but when I bought mine it seemed to present the best value.
Many Disco 2 owners who do have a code reader will help you out if they're able.

Ok thanks, I think I will remove the relay sierrafery thanks for that as it's not nice driving with that going on. I will have to see who about with a scanner............any body used this? iCarsoft LR II Diagnostic Scanner for Land Rovers Paddocks sell them but I cant find many reviews about them???.....

The iCarsoft device is an OBDII scanner and will more than likely work correctly on diesel Land Rovers after mid 2004, but before that date, the diesel Discoverys were not fully OBDII compatible, consequently they won't work properly on pre-June 2004 vehicles.
Many have asked, some have even tried but I don't know of anybody who have had any success with it.

I had the same thing on the right front ,,, the connector on the inner wheel arch had water in it ,,, i blew it out put some silicone grease in and all fixed ,,,,
One thing i do now on a regular basis is select low range on a steep hill and hit the hill decent button ,,,, it activates all the valves ,,,doing this every 2 or so months has save me from seeing any lights on the dash in 6 months ,,,,,

e the icarsoft and the nanocom i and evo ,,,,,
the icar is good for a quick "Clear faults " setup .
The nanocom is fantastic does all i want and can link the PC so the screen is larger
The nanocom evo is crap ,,,it does more but the screen is small i have to keep changing glasses to work on the car then the screen ,,
Also i have cracked 2 screens they are rubbish ..
nanocom will remap the ecu , program keys , change security codes ect ect ..

Had My nanocom evo over a 18 months, not broken a screen or needed to worry about glasses....LOL...I like mine.

FYI, Bearmach are going to provide the Hawkeye Total at the beginning of next year as well.

OK thanks for the advice I'll try the hill decent out. I have checked the connections on the sencers and they seem OK. I will let you know how I get on with the icarsoft hopefully it will take sencer readings/codes if not I'll be sending it back.......

mine gets used every day ,,, i prefeere the original with pc link the evo in my opinion is like a toy ,, way to delicate ,,In the workshop they need to be tough ,,,, the silly screen is way to easy to smash ,,,
