Rumour has it that the early TD5s had a tendancy to leak diesel into the engine oil through cracked fuel drillings in the head. Gues what mine seems to be doing ??? Have changed the injector seals but no difference. Drove 60 miles and my oil level has raised about 1/4 inch on the dipstick and smells of diesel.

I'm told that the later heads were modified to prevent this so I have two questions:

1) What year did the modified heads become available?

2) Will a later TD5 head fit my 1998 TD5?

As an aside does anybody know how they solved this?

Cheers

Happened to mine at 86000 miles, ended up with a new head, camshaft and number three piston. Plus just for good measure they said the airflow metre was chuffed so a 3K bill later.... mine was a 2002 model so still had the problem then. Good luck.

Can get a head from Turner Engineering for £950. By the time I've got all the gaskets and bolts etc. I reckon I can do it myself for about £1200.
The rest of the motor is as sound as a pound.
I've just fitted a new turbo, radiator, intercooler, exhaust, and had the ECU tuned so it owes me too much money to just get rid as is.
I guess I'm having beans on toast for Xmas this year.

Not as easy as that because my garage door is one of them up and over canopy jobs which sticks out about three feet when its fully open.
I've borrowed one of them tent thingies that market stall holders use so I wont get wet but its still kin cold and miserable.

what about letting tyres down or getting a set of wheel rims to then drive it in on also lowers the car so it is easier to work on it might fit in the garage then

I'll have a play this weekend because if I can get it in the garage then I dont have to rush things.
I do have a some old steel rims without tyres and if I remove the roof rack it may just fit. If I lay some hardboard down it should not damage the rims or the floor.

Why do newer houses come with poxy small garages? My old house had a garage 10 feet wide and a ceiling about the same. If I could I'd make the garage bigger but as its part of the house theres no way to do it unless I knock through into next door.
