Sorry to drag this old thread up but thought it was a good place to ask my questions!
A couple of years have gone by since these answers so I was wondering if there was any better products on the market to improve mpg and performance of an auto disco (I'm looking at a 2001-2003 discovery). I would of preferred a manual but there seems to be more choice of autos.
Also what is the best way to check for problems with an auto box on a test drive?

Improvements on an auto-box Disco TD5:

1. Ashcrofts HD torque converter (TC) - makes a huge difference. None of that silly revving away with no go, you get PROPER drive with the new TC.

2. Full service;

3. Re-map

4. New intercooler.

I was really considering a HD TC for mine, but I went in a remapped D2 with one fitted (didn't drive, just observed as a passenger) and was really disappointed, didn't seem to make much difference TBH, still revved high and seemed to be slipping lots...but it was quicker...!

When you drive one, you can sense immediately that there is more drive available. Now it doesn't sound the sound as a manual box car, but that's because auto boxes work differently.

Is the HD TC worth it? In my opinion no question, yes !
