In low it engages reverse perfect its like something inside the box is not telling it to engage reverse when in high

and the wont select first and the grinding?
It will select 1st but just doesnt show it on the dash and the grindin is more like an air escaping sound when foot on accelerator

i think its best you explain what it actually does and doesnt do
All gears and drive working fine in high apart from reverse only works sometimes then puts box in limp mode same when in low but if in reverse soon as transfer changed from high to low it jumps straight into reverse

that isnt the full list you said 1st wasnt working?
does selector illuminate each selected gear
Sorry 1st gear is working just doesnt show up on dash when selected every other gear shows up on dash when selected sorry am not the best at expaining things and this jeep has got my head shattered alls i done was change a diff and gear oil now this started before that it was perfect

try putting it in rev and if it doesnt select mover the lever to see if you can get it to,if its not showing on the dash display it would suggest xyz or its connector
It will after a few trys but then the m s lights starts flashing

they will do , moving lever helps it select it suggests cable is badly adjusted,often were cable clamp to the box mount
Could this have been nocked while changing a front diff?

shouldnt have been but who knows,does moving the lever alter dash readout
Yes sometimes it wont show R then when messed with it will
Hi pal just cleaned my ecu and all wiring behind glovebox and also cleaned xyz switch connectors with brake cleaner now its fine but sometimes wont select reverse from park but does from every other gear also showing up 1st on the dash

you might need a slight adjustment of cable to ensure full selection of reverse
The cable going to the xyz switch?

yes the bowden cable,xyz switch is also on slotted holes so you cab adjust it so dash light coincides with gear selected

if youve had cable off to do xyz switch is possible it needs fine adjustment to ensure each selection is full
Yes i had cable off the end all is well now but only tested on garden gunna test drive tomorrow will let you know thanks for your time much apreciated
